Treating IDD/Special Needs patients, Don’t Say NO!

This course will provide a high-level view of treating patients with Intellectual/Development Disability (IDD) previously designated as “Patients with Special Healthcare Needs (SHCN)” in the private office setting. When to say yes and when to refer. Who can I refer to? We will discuss items to take into consideration when deciding if the patient can be treated in your private office setting for some or all of their care.

We will discuss several conditions such as ADHD, Autism, Cerebral Palsy, and others for:
• Prevalence
• Manifestations including clinical, oral, and other potential
disorders/concerns.
• Management including Medication with examples of drugs the patient very well may be taking and Behavioral management/guidance.
• Dental Treatment and Prevention
